What Is an Operculectomy?
An Operculectomy is a minor oral surgical procedure that removes the flap of gum tissue (operculum) covering a partially erupted tooth, most commonly a wisdom tooth.
The procedure helps improve oral hygiene around the tooth, reduces irritation, and lowers the risk of repeated gum infections associated with partially erupted teeth.
How Does Operculectomy Work?
Following local anaesthesia, the excess gum tissue covering the tooth is carefully removed using advanced surgical or laser techniques. This exposes the tooth, making it easier to clean while reducing the likelihood of food trapping and bacterial accumulation.
